A Postage Stamp Portrait.

In this homage to Abraham Lincoln two iconic images have been combined. Firstly the famous Lincoln Memorial Statue in Washington D.C. is a huge iconic sculpture and is rendered solely using American stamps. The face is made up from a 13 cent stamp of the Liberty Bell with its slogan “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land.” A purple 4 cent stamp which is a portrait of Lincoln is used as an outline and in the background an image of the White House is incorporated represented on an 8 cent stamp. The eyes of the statue have been altered to look towards the second image.
This second larger image is based on Daniel Day-Lewis’ portrayal in Steven Spielberg’s 2012 film, Lincoln. The dramatic lighting and strong tones from his portrayal of the enigmatic figure of Lincoln are used in this portrait. The British definitive stamps are justified in the portrayal of Daniel Day-Lewis who is a British actor depicting an iconic American president.
