A limestone carving of the Mermaid of Zennor with her face raised skywards and her hands behind her back supporting her tail. The story of the Mermaid of Zennor: Long ago a mermaid used to visit St Senara's Church in Zennor in Cornwall to hear the choir sing, and her own voice was so sweet that she enticed Mathey Trewella, the son of the churchwarden, to come away with her. Neither of them was ever seen on dry land again, and the famed "mermaid chair" in St Senara's Church is the same bench on which the mermaid used to sit and sing, opposite Mathey Trewella in the singing loft.
