This graphic interpretation celebrates the amazing exploits of Kent’s most famous masked adventurer, pirate, smuggler and parson to the Parish of Dymchurch Under-the-Wall, Dr. Syn alias the Scarecrow, the character created by actor and author Russell Thorndike for his series of seven 18th century based action adventure novels.
Dr. Syn is a well loved fictional character who comes alive straight from the pages of the novels at the biennial Day of Syn Bank Holiday Weekend festival in the little seaside holiday village of Dymchurch Under-the-Wall on the edge of the mysterious Romney Marsh in Kent, the one time haunt of The Scarecrow and his smuggling gang of Nightriders. 30% of the artist's profits will go to the Day of Syn Society, formed in 1965, with the sole aim of organising the festival and keeping the name of Dr. Syn alias the Scarecrow alive. This print is limited to 100 copies only and is signed and numbered by the artist.
The print would be of interest to Dr Syn enthusiasts, or anyone interested in the days of pirating, smuggling and adventure on the high seas and upon Romney Marsh known as the fifth continent of the world. Why not take a journey down to Dymchurch Under-the-Wall and meet the pirating smuggler himself at the next Day of Syn festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend in 2016, a great event for adventurous children and adults too where you can dress as a smuggler and join in with the fun.
