Prancing horses by Helena Manchip | Artgallery.co.uk

A group of beautiful horses prance along in a small herd.
They are semi transparent which accentuates their sense of movement. The equines are based on Renaissance style horse drawings which reveals the artists interest in recording the creatures while they are engaged in moments of fleeting motion.
The image is started by applying water colour on to handmade paper. Layers of chalk pastels are applied to the paper when the water colour is dry. The horses are then drawn using water colour pencils. Hi lights are removed using abrasive paper and acrylic pens are used to bring the drawing to life with vibrant contour lines.
