This represents the view of the Needles in the nineteenth century when the lighthouse was first built. The stacks were more rugged then, not worn as smooth by storms and tides as they are now.
Recently, in 1987, a helipad was added to the top of the lighthouse and it became fully automated in 1994.
This picture is showing a time past.
The painting has been varnished with UV protection to resist fading.
A wire is on the back to facilitate easy hanging.
