This is a Victorian era castle built as a country home in the mid 19th century by James Matheson. He bought the whole island a few years previously with his fortune made from the Chinese Opium trade. The company, Jardine Matheson, is still trading today. It was started by two Scotsmen who successfully sold everything (Including drugs) from The Far East, worldwide.
It has beautiful views over the harbour and after years of neglect is now restored to its former elegance and open to the public.
The painting continues down the edges and need not be framed. There is a wire on the back for a snug fit to the wall and instant hanging. The canvas has been treated with a UV varnish to prevent fading.
