Moonrise at Midwinter and the snow is covering the landscape. It is the very fine type of fluffy snow which blows with the wind and covers the bumpy ground leaving the odd clump of grass here and there exposed.
The Callanish Stones have been described in winter as majestic, menacing, ominous and spooky. But it is also a very spiritual and mystical place to be especially on midsummer solstice.
Over five thousand years old these magnificent stones are the second largest stones in UK. (Stonehenge being the largest.)
I have painted this picture in layers so the darker shades can show through around the grass clumps and the blue is underlying the white powdery snow on the stones. The night sky is an astronomer's dream with millions of stars filling the heavens.
A very spiritual place the essence of which I have captured in this work of art.
The canvas has been painted down the side so no need to frame. There is a wire on the back to hang with a snug fit to the wall. It has been treated with a UV varnish to prevent fading.
