This atmospheric watercolour captures a fleeting moment of stillness in the wintry woodlands near a friend's cabin in Sörmland, Sweden. Two alert fallow deer pause in the snow, watchful and poised, before melting silently back into the shelter of the trees.

I was captivated by the distinctive clarity of the Nordic winter landscape—the brilliance of sunlight on snow, the long, cool shadows and the profound sense of silence that seemed to surround us. Through the delicate washes and restrained palette of this painting, I have aimed to evoke both the crisp beauty of that sunny winter's day and the brief, magical encounter with these graceful animals.

Painted on Fabriano Classico 5 hot-pressed (HP) 140lb watercolour paper, using high-quality professional watercolour paints to ensure lasting vibrancy and detail.
