Gold Series - Alien Mixed Media

One in an ongoing series of experimental paintings created by mono printing glass paint and glitter in multiple layers.

Paint is pored onto a board before glass is pressed down creating a print that varies depending on the pressure applied, whether the different colours have been initially been allowed to blend and the manner in which the glass is lifted away. The layer is dried and the process repeated, with choices for the next informed by the last.

The challenge and joy of this technique is the attempt to achieve balance and harmony from a process essentially governed by chaos. With each new press I learn more about how to work with what has come before, giving me increasing influence over the finished piece - but it is the act of working with, rather than against that lack of control that gives the pieces their nuance and the sense of freedom for me as the artist.

The combination of opaque and transparent paint give the pieces literal visual depth. They catch light and shadows beautifully.
