Description
Great Ambrook is a garden of architectural and historical importance found in South Devon. The Summerhouse is at the old entrance to the garden and was originally a two-storied structure with an ogee roof. After years of neglect, it is now derelict, with missing windows and roof, but still holds an element of faded grandeur and importance. As Garden Photographer at Great Ambrook, I document the garden as it undergoes sympathetic restoration. This image was one of a series that earned me Finalist in the International Garden Photographer of the Year competition 14. The black-and-white treatment ties in with the garden's history and highlights the amazing textures of the crumbling structure.
This is one of my favourite photos, and I love it so much I have it in my own house, in a black frame in the kitchen!
