St Illtud established a Church and place of learning here in 500ADm and is reputed to be Britain's earliest known centre of learning.The imposing 11th century Church now standing on this site has been called the Westminster of Wales. At the western end stands the Galilee Chapel which houses an exhibition of Celtic crosses and carved stones - the finest collection outside of the National Museum of Wales.The ancient and sacred site now called Llanilltud was the cradle of 'Celtic' Christianity.
