Description
A watercolour painting of a young hawksbill turtle gliding through the shallow, crystal-clear waters of the lagoon at Aldabra, Seychelles, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is something timeless and almost mystical about this ancient creature, beautifully adapted to its underwater world. Once hunted close to extinction, the hawksbill turtle is now protected by conservation and anti-hunting laws in many countries.
I have treated the surrounding water in a more expressive, almost abstract manner, allowing washes of turquoise, ochre, gold, violet and green to merge and swirl like sunlight filtering through shallow water and shifting across the sandy seabed. Against this atmospheric background, the intricate patterning of the turtle’s shell and the delicate, lace-like markings of its flippers and head are brought into sharp focus, creating a striking contrast between realism and abstraction.
Painted using professional watercolour and metallic watercolour paints on acid-free watercolour paper.
The painting measures 17.72 x 12.99 inches / 45 x 33 cm and is presented in a 24.02 x 16.14 inch / 61 x 41 cm wide off-white mount, ready for framing.
A Certificate of Authenticity, signed by myself, accompanies each original. The painting will be securely wrapped and dispatched promptly. Free shipping within the UK.
