Description
An evocative exploration of the formidable gritstone formations at Brimham Rocks, this abstract painting translates the raw power and unique character of the ancient landscape onto canvas. Through a compelling interplay of form and colour, I refine the essence of these natural monoliths, inviting viewers to discover new perspectives within their familiar contours. Initially, I created an energetic sketch in quick-drying acrylic, establishing the foundational architecture and underlying dynamism, which mirrored the enduring skeletal structure of the gritstones themselves. Over this acrylic underpainting, I meticulously applied layers of rich oil paint, aiming to achieve a profound sense of light, shadow, and atmospheric nuance. The oils bring a vibrant, almost geological shimmer to the surface, reflecting the varied textures and subtle mineral hues found in the rock.
It is a dialogue between the solidity of stone and the fluidity of paint, a vibrant homage to the geological wonders.
