Description
Acrylic on Canvas | Original Painting | 120 x 80 cm | Ready to Hang
This atmospheric seascape uses layers of deep blue with lighter, shimmering strokes to suggest moonlight across the Atlantic. Deep blue and near-black tones carry the weight of night over water.
Inspired by the name given to a 90,000-square-mile stretch of the Atlantic in the UK Shipping Forecast, the work captures the sense of endless expanse and mystery long associated with Cape Finisterre — once believed by the Romans to be the end of the known world.
Shipping Forecast
Each painting in the Shipping Forecast series takes its title from the language of the forecast itself — either a named sea area or a line describing wind and conditions.
I’m drawn to the restrained poetry of that language: measured, factual, yet quietly atmospheric.
In these works, that coded maritime vocabulary becomes visual rather than spoken, with shifts in colour, direction and surface reflecting the subtle tension between calm and disturbance carried within the forecast’s steady tone.
