Description
"Silver Birch Wood" is inspired by a woodland near my home in the beautiful Peak District. Drawn to the alchemy of turquoise, copper, and gold I have created the painting in these colours resulting in a vibrant piece full of light; warm tones and a subtle echo of sunlight through the trees. The soft gold and delicate textures weave a tapestry of serenity and freshness that will infuse any space with a peaceful calming energy.
This is a one-of-a-kind, original artwork, created using acrylic paints on a deep edged canvas. My process begins with time spent in the landscape, observing, taking notes, and photographing details that later inform my work in the studio.
From these observations, I move into a more intuitive phase, laying down base layers with a brush, then building up texture through impasto techniques with a palette knife. I incorporate optical mixing methods reminiscent of the Impressionists, as well as traditional techniques such as scumbling and glazing used by the old masters.
The painting evolves organically, and I continue refining it until it reaches a natural conclusion. The finished piece sits between abstraction and realism, a contemporary interpretation of nature. The painting continues round the edges of the canvas, so no frame is required and it’s ready to hang.
