Description
In this self-portrait, a torso dabbed with gold leaf catches the light, making it luminous. The face retreats into darkness, leaving only the exposure of the body, so that this becomes a portrait without identity, a figure without a name. It is a costume stripped away to reveal the courage to be vulnerable and present. It is, for a queer middle-aged man, a reclaiming of self.
