Artistic background

Simon Bailey was born, and still lives, in South London in the UK.

He studied A-levels in Art & Design and Graphical Communication at college as, being diagnosed with Dyslexia, he thought he would study subjects that did not focus on writing, but found this was not the case after all!

After college, Simon did not touch any art medium for over twenty years. However, he could often be heard lamenting “I could paint that - I do have A-levels in art you know!”

In November 2018, Simon suffered daily migraines and, on the advice of his neurologist, decided to see if painting could ease the pain. He bought oil paints, brushes and canvases as he was keen to try this technique.
He now paints daily, working mainly on landscapes involving trees and clouds.

In 2022, an invitation that started,
“We’re pleased to inform you that your artwork has been shortlisted and ask that you deliver it to the RA for the final round of judging” was an amazing achievement.
His work wasn’t accepted into the main show at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022, but, being selected from over 16.000 entries to the final round, is his greatest achievement so far, and proudly carrying his piece on the train and tube to the judging remains an absolute honour!
