Artistic background

I have been producing art since childhood - which, for me, means the 1960s. I qualified with a Fine Art BA (Hons.) in 1984 and a PGCE shortly after.
For many years I worked in Health and Social Care Services whilst painting and producing creative works in 'down-time' but more recently have been able to focus on my art and now live and work as an artist on the South Coast.
Typically I find inspiration in the beauty of the natural world, the effect and form of light and movement, and the power, potential or position of individuals.
I paint mainly in oils on stretched canvas or canvas boards/sheets but also enjoy the use of soft pastels and the process of observational studies drawn in pencil and charcoal.
Each piece is an attempted communication - sometimes I'm keen to capture or highlight a movement, shape or interaction whilst at other times there may be an attempt to express an emotion, interpretation or memory. Often it will be a combination of these but essentially each image is simply a doorway to your own personal response.
If that's an experience that you're glad you had - success!
