ArtGallery Artwork Submission Guidelines

These standards are designed to help artists present their work professionally and consistently on the platform. Following them ensures a high-quality experience for collectors and helps artworks receive timely approval and online visibility.

Most submissions are approved quickly, but artworks may be rejected if they do not meet these criteria. If your artwork is not approved, we will notify you and clearly explain which guideline category it falls under and how it can be improved.

1. Artwork Presentation Standards

  • A mandatory texture/detail image is required for every artwork.

  • Main images must show the artwork clearly with a clean, neutral background — no walls, furniture, frames, or props.

  • Artwork colours must be accurately represented (no heavy filters or stylised edits).

  • Artwork orientation must be specified clearly (Portrait, Landscape, or Square).

  • The full artwork must be visible in the main image — nothing should be cropped out.

  • The gallery photo must be taken straight on, not at an angle.

2. Artwork Information & Transparency

All of the following must be provided in the artwork listing:

  • Medium and materials used

  • Width × Height × Depth in cm (not inches)

  • Year of creation

  • Framed or unframed status

  • Hanging or display readiness

  • Edition number (if applicable)

  • Price (must meet minimum platform thresholds)
If fields are missing, this can result in delayed approval.

3. Authenticity & Trust

  • Certificates of Authenticity must include artwork title, artist name, year, and edition number (if applicable).

  • Signed works must clearly state whether the signature is on the front or back.

4. Artwork Longevity & Care

  • Provide basic care instructions where relevant (e.g., suitable framing, cleaning guidance).

  • Medium-specific handling recommendations are encouraged.

  • Note any environmental sensitivities such as light or humidity.

5. Technical & Format Requirements

  • Accepted image formats: JPEG, PNG, TIFF.

  • File size must remain within platform limits.

  • Images must be high resolution (minimum 300 DPI or 2000px on the longest side).

  • The longest artwork side must be clearly stated.

  • Incomplete metadata or poor technical formatting can delay or prevent approval.

6. Visual Presentation (Critical for Online Display)

  • Images must be clean, sharp, and well lit with no shadows, reflections, glare, or flash artifacts.

  • Use a neutral background.

  • Cropping must show the entire artwork; no cut edges.

  • Screenshots, blurry images, or phone flash photos will not be approved.

7. Content & Compliance

Artwork must:

  • Not include hate speech or discriminatory content.

  • Avoid explicit sexual content, unless it clearly aligns with ArtGallery's curatorial remit.

  • Not infringe copyright.

  • Not contain offensive or harmful material unless there is a strong artistic or contextual justification.

  • Align with the gallery’s curatorial direction.
All submissions are subject to our Unacceptable Subject Matter Policy.

8. Consistency With Gallery Standards

  • The overall aesthetic tone of the platform must be respected.

  • A consistent level of professionalism should be maintained across all submissions.

9. Artistic Quality & Intent

We do not judge artistic style, but we do assess technical and professional standards:

  • Artwork should demonstrate clear artistic intent and originality.

  • Composition, technique, and execution should meet a professional or emerging-professional standard.

  • Work should appear complete and deliberate, not unfinished or an unrefined draft.

10. Reasons an Artwork May Be Rejected

In line with the existing ArtGallery review process, artworks may be rejected for specific recipe-level reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Background, cropping, skewed or angled photos

  • Watermarks or images showing multiple artworks

  • Poor quality, too small, or incorrect orientation photos

  • Missing photos of edges or insufficient images

  • Description errors such as spelling mistakes or prohibited links

  • Price below minimum thresholds

  • Based outside approved regions (UK, EU, US)

  • Limited edition prints without print run details

  • Open editions are no longer permitted

  • Frame inclusion unclear
If rejected for a reason not listed here, a manual explanation will be provided.
