Description
This is a needle-felted wool fiber sculpture of an embryo. It was inspired by the marvel that surrounds the design of the human body: here there is the vulnerable state, and also an indication of the marvellous structure beginning to form. It also reminds me of the sprouting and growth of a flower. As I was experimenting with needle felting I thought a soft material like fibre an appropriate one, and it posed a challenge as this is my first attempt at this type of subject. I chose the base as a sort of "nest" which is what the womb might be. The bell jar is an appropriate enclosure….a symbol of protection also.
It is a small sculpture constructed from wire, fiber measuring 13x5x5" (33x13x13cm), and signed at the base.
