Riding the Big Waves Oil

I'm sometimes referred to as a 'marine artist' since I love painting rough stormy seas. However, I also love to paint en plein air in forests, woodland, hillsides and where nature provides many beautiful scenes. I've always been inspired by the impressionists, particularly Alfred Sisley, Camille Pissarro, Gareth Parry, David Atkins and James Mcgairy.
This painting, completed in my Wiltshire studio, came after a rather scary trip in a fast offshore boat. The boat, crashing and bouncing around through the rough sea, tried its best to disrupt my photography which I needed for references. I managed to use a few photos but the venture was certainly exhilarating and worthwhile.
