Description

High Moor, High Summer
Oil on canvas | Framed in natural wood

I painted this after a Heli shift, looking down at the landscape beneath the helicopter — watching shadows move across the hills and fields in real time. From that height you see light differently. The clouds cast their shadows like slow hands moving across the ground, and when a break comes the land below suddenly flares green and gold. You can't unsee it once you've watched it from up there.

Most of my work is on board. Canvas does something different — it gives a little under the brush, holds the paint in a way that suits this kind of sky. It felt right for this one.

The aerial perspective is in the composition — that wide open spread of moor, the sense of looking across rather than into the scene. The foreground dark, the middle distance suddenly lit. High summer, but the weather still doing what it wants. From 1,500 feet, that's exactly what it feels like.
