The Soul of the Sea Oil

The Soul of the Sea is a large original seascape painting of a white seagull flying over a serene white ocean. It is 40x40x1.5 inches (a metre by a metre) and is semi-abstract and quite unique in style. The colours are neutral and white. The painting is deliberately symmetrical and shows shafts of sunlight emerging from pale peach and purple clouds. The seagull is in the centre below the sun and below her are gently rippling lacy waves painted in in thick impasto white paint. The seagull represents a searching soul. The sand can be seen glistening in the foreground where the waves, ebbing and flowing, have created a pull back acting as invitation to enter this universe. This is a very calm, serene and slightly wistful painting and was inspired by a trip to Aruba last year where I spent many hours watching the sea and wondering about things.
