Three Alliums Oil

I grow these purple alliums in my garden and sometimes, when they are backlit by the sun, they become almost luminescent, and that is the quality that I tried to capture in my painting. To do this I started painting with transparent colour, and then placed opaque colour over it, but allowing the transparency to show through in places. The greens in the background add a coolness to the vibrancy of the flower heads.
This piece is painted on birch board and I have left the sides unpainted to show the grain of the wood. The board can be placed in a frame if wished.
