Description
An Tiaracht or Tearaght is the most westerly of the Blasket Islands off the coast of Kerry, Ireland. It was never inhabited except by lighthouse keepers. The lighthouse was built is 1870 and automated in 1988. It was served by the steepest funicular rail track in Europe from 1913 until automation. The island has important population of seabirds including manx shearwaters, puffins, auks and storm petrels.
