"Warrior" (acrylic) Wild Pony North Wales Acrylic

This original painting is of pony Warrior, a wild stallion of the Carneddau mountains in North Wales, and is framed simply, painted on stretched canvas. I I love painting animals, and when I found Sandra Roberts' wonderful photos of the wild ponies of the Carneddau, I didn't need to look any further for artistic inspiration! Sandra has been watching these beauties for over 10 years, and any names given to my paintings using her photos, are those she gave to that particular pony, she has been following. These ponies are a breed of small Welsh Mountain ponies, present in the Carneddau mountains in north Wales, in Snowdonia (Eryri). They stand at 10-11 hands, and in 2013, DNA identification revealed that they are a distinct, unique and ancient breed having been isolated in the Carneddau for centuries.
