Description
I spent countless hours walking through the ancient, 400-year-old Epping Forest in London. Its atmosphere—quiet, mysterious, and full of stories—left a deep impression on me, and I was inspired to capture those feelings in this painting.
Created with oil paint using both brush and palette knife, this piece took five months to complete, allowing each layer time to dry and deepen in texture. The painting reveals itself in three parts:
The background evokes a dreamlike forest, rendered in an impressionistic style. There are no strict lines—only the play of tone and colour, inviting you to imagine where the paths might lead or what lies just beyond the bend. It’s a place of suggestion, not definition.
The middle ground introduces a river, shimmering with reflected light. Sunlight, air, and water blend together, creating a luminous, living surface. The intensity of colour and the glimmering textures mirror the quiet vitality of the scene.
And finally, the foreground is claimed by Mr Tree—an ancient, majestic figure who seems to stand as a keeper of secrets. With rich detail, deep contrasts, and a striking presence, he represents wisdom, dignity, and the beauty of age.
The painting is varnished for protection and is ready to hang.
I hope you love it as much as I do!
