Jaffna Displacement
In 1995, due to the war in the Jaffna district of Sri Lanka, we were compelled to leave behind the home where we were born and raised, as well as our entire hometown.
As a result, our family had to gather our belongings and move to a safer location. As a young girl, I carried a wistful longing: I imagined how much easier it would have been if our house, with all our belongings inside, could simply have been placed on wheels and pulled along with a rope.
I have captured that childhood imagination in a painting.
