Field of Flowers Photograph

Passing a shop window of surreal objet d’art, I was drawn to a porcelain Buddha—or perhaps a Bodhisattva—crowned with an impressive bouquet of flowers. It became the companion to a recent photograph of a repaired concrete wall, patched and softly mottled with fungi, from which a meadow of flowers seemed to grow. One speaks of compassion and enlightenment; the other of biodiversity, soil health, and the fragile shelter needed by pollinators in a changing climate. Wildflower fields and areas of land left untouched by man support biodiversity and help combat climate change by improving soil health, capturing carbon, and providing essential habitats for pollinators.
