Description
This is an original acrylic painting on canvas, called ‘Turtles’. It is inspired by the documentary I watched a while ago. It is about the beauty of the underwater world and how it is being destroyed by us. Humanity is significantly damaging the ocean through pollution, climate change, overfishing. I was mesmerised by the beauty of the mysterious underwater world. The coral reefs, mangroves and all the water creatures so rich with colour, texture, shapes and forms.
In my painting I tried to create a dreamlike underwater world where sea turtles glide gracefully through a coral reef. In the dense yet fluid composition multiple turtles move diagonally across the canvas, creating a sense of gentle motion and depth. The surrounding reef is fantastical rather than strictly realistic. I painted corals coral red, levander, gold and violet. With the background fading into deep blues and purples I tried to create an illusion of quiet mystery and deeper water. That strengthened the glow of the vibrant corals and turtles in the foreground.
I am hoping that my painting evokes peace and harmony, celebrating marine life through pattern, colour and movement. There is no threat or danger in here. In here carefree turtles drift through a rimless, enchanted sea.
