Description
In this self-portrait, a blue face emerges from, and dissolves back into, surrounding water, the boundary between self and sea uncertain. The water serves as the metaphor for an identity that shifts rather than settling into solid ground. To be an ocean is to be vast and mysterious, and ultimately this is a painting of hope that explores the boundless depths we still have to discover about ourselves.
