Description

This painting began with a feeling rather than a place — the sense of standing at the edge of something vast and unknowable, the way children often do before the world teaches them to look away. The waterfall emerged first, not as a literal landscape but as a symbol of that overwhelming beauty that both humbles and invites you in. I worked the textures thickly around it, letting the paint gather and break like moss, stone, and mist layered over time.
The small figure came later, almost unexpectedly. As I stepped back from the canvas, I felt the scene needed a witness — someone to hold the wonder that adults often forget to feel. The child with the basket became that quiet anchor. She isn’t afraid of the scale of the world in front of her; she’s simply present, absorbing it, letting it shape her without rushing to understand it.
The colours were built in slow, intuitive layers: earthy greens and browns for grounding, soft golds to hint at warmth, and pale misty whites to blur the line between reality and imagination. The whole process felt like uncovering a memory I didn’t know I had — a reminder of how small we are, and how beautiful that smallness can be.
At its heart, this piece is about wonder, courage, and the quiet magic of seeing the world with open eyes.
