Description
Oak Leaves. A still-life study of a young oak sapling. I have two. The smaller came through the summer unharmed. The larger was scorched by the heatwaves of 2026, its leaves turning brown in July.
Now, in mid-October, they cling on, dry and weightless, held in the dark as if caught mid-gust. They are the colour of ash and parchment, and they are still here.
Spring will bring new growth. In time, this thin stem may stand for a hundred years or more. Something tells me it will survive.
