Lost in Translation Oil

Lost in Translation is an original abstract oil pastel painting on canvas board, 40 x 40 cm, by London-based artist Claire Campbell. Seeded from an evening in Tokyo, looking out over the city from the bar at the Park Hyatt with my brother, where the skyline seemed to repeat endlessly into the distance. Layers of coral, blush pink, golden yellow, crimson and cobalt blue glow against a deep navy-black border, with scratchy, broken marks that let the canvas weave show through. The painting holds the feeling of a city at night: warm, electric, blurred and a little disorienting. Part of an ongoing studio practice exploring colour, memory and emotion.
