Description
Behind Blue Eyes is an original contemporary portrait painted in acrylic on canvas.
The striking blue eyes immediately draw the viewer into the painting, while expressive, visible brushstrokes give the portrait a sense of movement and spontaneity. Soft blush pinks, muted greens, warm neutrals and flashes of red contrast with the intense eyes and dark graphic details.
Rather than creating a traditional, highly polished portrait, I wanted the face to emerge through layers of colour and loose marks. Some areas are deliberately defined while others dissolve into the surrounding background, giving the work an emotional, slightly dreamlike quality.
A bold but feminine contemporary portrait designed to create an immediate focal point within a room.
Original artwork – one of a kind.
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Size: 50 × 40 cm
Orientation: Portrait
Inspiration / artist statement
I was inspired by the expressive power of the human face, particularly the eyes and how much emotion can be communicated through a gaze. I wanted to create a portrait that feels striking and immediate without making every part of the face perfectly defined. The loose brushwork allows the figure to merge into the background and leaves something for the viewer to interpret. I hope people are initially drawn to her vivid blue eyes and then begin to notice the softer colours, layers and spontaneous marks surrounding them.
