Description
Brecon Falls is a highly textured oil-on-canvas study that captures the raw, kinetic energy of the Welsh mountains. Utilising a bold palette knife technique, the artist has created a visceral, three-dimensional surface that mirrors the ruggedness of the Brecon Beacons.
The composition is defined by two soaring, verdant peaks that frame a central, cascading waterfall. The falls are rendered with a decisive, vertical stroke of brilliant white and pale turquoise, cutting a luminous path through the deep, mossy greens and sun-drenched ochres of the mountain slopes. In the foreground, the artist employs a complex layering of dark, earthy tones and delicate, staccato highlights to suggest the tangled heather and rocky terrain of the valley floor. The sky above is a light, airy cerulean, built with thick, sculptural impasto that reflects the shifting cloud and light common to the uplands.
Presented in a deep-set, modern black frame, this original work is a celebration of both the permanence of the mountains and the constant movement of the water that carves through them. It is a powerful statement piece for any collection of contemporary landscape art.
