DundeeArtistic background
Having studied Advertising and Graphic Design at Hounslow Borough College in London, I gained a strong foundation in art, illustration and drawing that continues to influence my work today.I have been painting in oils since 2006 and would describe my work as contemporary with a semi-abstract style. Through the use of bold colour, expressive linework and richly textured surfaces, I strive to create paintings that are distinctive and recognisably my own. My subject matter ranges from still life and landscapes to architectural studies, reflecting a lifelong fascination with the built environment in all its forms.
Much of my inspiration comes from my home city of Dundee and the surrounding Scottish countryside. These familiar scenes are often reimagined through memory and interpretation rather than direct observation, allowing me the freedom to explore composition, colour and atmosphere in a more personal way. This artistic licence enables me to create works that capture not only a place, but also a feeling and sense of connection.
Working predominantly in oils, I enjoy building layers of paint to develop texture, pattern and depth. I frequently apply paint directly from the tube, creating vibrant surfaces that bring energy and movement to each piece. The physicality and flexibility of the medium is an important part of my creative process.
As an artist, I am continually evolving my style and technique, always searching for new ways to express familiar subjects through a unique visual language. My work is inspired by the expressive power of Vincent van Gogh and the remarkable use of colour by the Scottish Colourists, whose paintings continue to influence and inspire my artistic journey.
