HERRING DRIFTERS Oil

I frequently do lots of research into my traditional marine subjects and have received international acclaim for this type of painting. Herring drifters, like this group of boats from Lowestoft would head out to the fishing grounds and drift with their nets throughout the night. Fleets of herring drifters operated out of ports along the east coast of England and Scotland and this painting depicts the type of steam powered vessel common in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
