Colours of Winter Oil

A snowy winter scene. I underpainted the piece with the complimentary colours of orange and blue, allowing the orange to show through in order to give the scene some warmth. I also added blue in the shadows and pink in the light to the snow as snow is rarely white, but reflects the colours around it and the pink adds warmth to the light. The autumn leaves that have hung onto the small leaning trees in the centre of the painting are a very warm colour, allowing the overall painting to feel comfortable and not too cold. It is a winter painting that will look good hanging on the wall at any time of the year.
The piece is on a birch-wood panel, and I have painted the edges white, which works well with the overall scene. It can be hung on the wall as it is, or placed in a ready-made frame if wished.
