Description
This painting was inspired by Persephone, the ancient Greek goddess of growth and the queen of the underworld.
Because Persephone ate pomegranate seeds in the underworld, she had to split her time between worlds. Her return to the surface of the earth brought spring and summer, while her descent to the underworld brought autumn and winter.
