Description
A detailed depiction of these two famous ships as they race back to London from China with their cargoes of tea. Both ships had been becalmed in the South China Sea and the wind picked up as they entered the Indian Ocean. This painting shows the Cutty Sark just ahead of the Thermopylae as dawn illuminates the summer sky. The Cutty Sark continued to lead and was 400 nautical miles ahead when she lost her rudder which gave the Thermopylae the opportunity to reach London a week ahead.
Painted in a traditional style using the finest quality materials and offered for sale ready to hang in a bespoke hand finished frame. Also available unframed if preferred.
