Description
The village of Abinger Hammer in the Surrey Hills owes its existence to the iron industry of the Surrey/Sussex Weald. As the forests were exhausted in the making of charcoal, the industry migrated north where industrialists like Abraham Darby were smelting with coke
The village settled down to being a nice place to live, and the hammer ponds were used for growing watercress
