Description
I had sunflowers in a vase that were past their best: the petals were beginning to crease and droop and the flowers to hang their heads. Despite the signs of their aging, I thought they still looked very attractive at this stage and decided to paint them.
I made the background a yellowish-brown that I then overpainted with a dark purple, allowing some of the original colour to show through.
I accentuated some of the petals by outlining them with charcoal to give more of a crinkled look.
