Close to Me

Close to Me is an intimate original charcoal drawing exploring closeness, vulnerability and the quiet emotional language of the human form.

The figure emerges through expressive layers of charcoal — areas of confident definition sit alongside softer, more suggestive marks, allowing parts of the body to dissolve into the surrounding paper. This balance between detail and ambiguity gives the work a sense of immediacy, as though capturing a private moment rather than a posed study.

My fascination with human anatomy has always been central to my figurative work, but here the emphasis is not simply on the physical form. Close to Me is about connection: the feeling of wanting someone near, the vulnerability that comes with intimacy, and the emotions that can exist in the space between two people.

Charcoal gives the drawing its rawness. The contrast between deep blacks, delicate tonal transitions and untouched areas of paper creates movement and atmosphere while retaining the spontaneity of the original marks.
