The Collector Oil

The Collector is part of my ongoing Wonderland series and draws on the ambiguous presence of the Cheshire Cat. Set within a calm, nocturnal landscape, the composition initially presents a quiet and inviting scene, softened by gentle light and carefully balanced detail.
On closer inspection, subtle disruptions emerge. A series of employee badges hang from the surrounding tree, suggesting accumulated encounters and a pattern of quiet acquisition. These elements introduce an undercurrent of unease, shifting the reading of the scene from contemplative to psychologically charged.
The work explores the tension between charm and manipulation, reflecting on figures who present as approachable and trustworthy while operating with more calculated intent. As part of the Wonderland series, it continues an interest in familiar imagery as a means of examining contemporary social dynamics, where appearances conceal more complex and often unsettling realities.
