Underwater Ancestry explores the fluid connection between memory and identity through a symbolic portrait layered with ancestral motifs and aquatic tones. The figure — partially immersed in a blue field of textures and water-inspired symbols — carries traditional embroidery from the Muscel region of Romania on her skin, like a second language.

Gold leaf evokes the sacred and the timeless, while the interplay of opaque and transparent surfaces reflects what is hidden, revealed, or transformed across generations. Created in mixed media on paper — with acrylic, ink, watercolor pencils, and textured gesso — the work invites reflection on the resilience of heritage and the spiritual currents that connect us to forgotten shores.
