Dark Bay Welsh Cob Oil

This handsome Dark Bay Welsh Cob was the subject of a commissioned portrait. As part of the commission, I took a series of photographs to capture his character, expression and presence from a variety of angles.

This painting was inspired by one of those photographs, which particularly appealed to me as a reference. I enjoyed capturing his rich dark bay colouring, strong features and distinctive character, creating a portrait that reflects both his beauty and the qualities that made him such an appealing subject to paint.

I always enjoy the process of photographing a horse myself, as it gives me the opportunity to look beyond a straightforward portrait and capture those fleeting expressions and poses that can bring an artwork to life.
