Description
In this painting, I wanted to capture the quiet beauty of the fens at sunrise, close to my village near Ely. The tall reeds rise in calm silhouettes against the early morning light, their forms standing motionless beneath a glowing sky that shifts from warm golds and soft pinks to cooler blues and violets. I was drawn to the deep stillness of this moment, when the fenland feels hushed and expansive, suspended between night and morning. The layered brushwork and subtle transitions of colour are intended to convey a sense of calm reflection as the landscape emerges into daylight.
Painted with professional-quality oil paints, the surface has been finished with a light matte varnish to enrich the colours and provide lasting protection. The sides of the canvas are painted white, allowing the piece to be displayed unframed. Picture-hanging fittings are in place for immediate display.
