Description
An oak tree stands sentinel between the fields, its spreading boughs awakening with the first fresh colours of spring. I love the contrast between this ancient tree's steadfast strength and the constant movement and change that surrounds it — a silent presence at the heart of the landscape.
In this expressive watercolour, I have used loose, fluid washes to suggest the changing light and expansive fenland sky, contrasting them with energetic brushwork and fine linear marks made with a calligraphy pen to capture the intricate network of branches and the lively growth of the surrounding grasses. The result is a balance between structure and spontaneity, reflecting both the solidity and dynamism of the scene.
