My creative journey began in 1982 during the final year of my BA Art degree, when one of my silkscreen prints was accepted into the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. The work received press coverage and offers from several London galleries, helping to launch my professional career. At the time, it also contributed to breaking new ground in the acceptance of the silkscreen process as a fine art medium.
In 1989, following the birth of my son, I shifted my focus toward my second passion—couture fashion design. Over the next 28 years, I built a successful career dressing society clients and celebrities.
During the COVID period, I returned to my artistic roots. Since then, I have quickly re-established myself as an exhibiting artist, with gallery shows, television appearances, and press coverage.

If you love Elizabeth’s birds but aren’t ready to invest in an original, we offer a selection of limited edition giclée prints, created with an award-winning, Hahnemühle Platinum Certified studio. With over 20 years of expertise behind them, each print is produced using meticulous in-house scanning, proofing, and colour management to ensure exceptional accuracy, vibrancy, and fidelity to the original artwork. Every piece is carefully crafted to honour the detail and character of the original painting.

Artistic background

Elizabeth was always destined to be an artist. From her early years she was constantly drawing, painting, sewing, and model making. But her dream was to be a fine artist. Four years at Newport College of Art specialising in silkscreen printmaking led her to Tredegar House a local stately home to draw and gather inspiration for a series of silkscreen prints for her degree show.
Months before graduating Elizabeth decided the time was right to submit one of her Tredegar House silkscreen prints to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. It was accepted, hung and the edition sold out – a career was launched. London galleries rushed to buy her prints.
By 1987 she was already listed in Who’s Who in International Art. Her silkscreen prints were selling all over the world and were being hung in restaurants and hotels by many established interior designers.
After her son was born it was time to rethink and find a new creative outlet. This is when her career in fashion took shape. Her collections sold well, and Elizabeth soon established herself as a couture designer creating exclusive outfits for society and celebrity clients.
Elizabeth had long wanted to return to her artist roots, and she used lockdown to explore a new challenge. This led to an appearance on Sky Art Landscape Artist of the year in 2022 and a solo exhibition at Ad Lib Gallery, London in 2024. Recently her artwork was selected to be part of the Woman in Art Fair at The Mall Galleries, London (100 artists were selected from over 2000 submissions.) Elizabeth was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Artists in 2018 - her creative journey continues. https://www.elizabethbessantartist.co.uk
